Where do Their Names Come From?

The names for the days of the week are mostly derived from Roman and Norse mythology, named after celestial bodies and the gods associated with them. For instance, Sunday is named for the Sun, Monday for the Moon, and Saturday for Saturn. Other days, like Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, are named after the Norse gods Tyr, Odin (Woden), Thor, and Frigg, respectively, which were counterparts to the Roman gods Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus.
