About Tipping in India
A tip (or 'baksheesh') is an extra sum of money paid to service workers for good service. Tipping customs in India are discretionary and not as rigid as in some Western countries. While not always expected, a tip is a gesture of appreciation for excellent service.
Be aware that some restaurants add a "Service Charge" to the bill (usually 10%), which is not the same as a tip. A service charge is mandatory and is distributed among all staff. A tip is voluntary and goes directly to the server.
